Hyundai is lighting up the hybrid market. While they have provided a variety of standard hybrids for years, they're recent foray into all-electric and PHEV vehicles has made their electric-powered line-up one of the largest of all automakers!

New this year to the Hyundai line-up is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). Alongside its bigger brother - the Santa Fe PHEV - Hyundai is poised to corner the PHEV SUV market by offering a one-two punch. Both of these vehicles are highly rated in their standard form, and their PHEV models keep all the same bells and whistles! So why is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson PHEV right for you?

Performance Features

It all starts under the hood of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson PHEV. A hybrid drivetrain consisting of an inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and a 66.9-kW electric motor gets it going. These combine for a total system horsepower of 261 horses and a total system torque of 258 lb-ft, for impressive acceleration. The six-speed automatic with SHIFTRONIC and Drive Mode Select puts that power right to the standard all-wheel drive system that is capable across a wide range of surfaces, as well as in poor weather conditions.

Savings at the pump will be impressive with this combination. The all-electric range of the Tucson PHEV on a full charge is 33 miles, which is perfect for short work commutes or running errands around town. The combined hybrid mileage is 35 MPG, while the total Miles Per Gallon - equivalent is 80 MPGe. Even with all this energy-conscious effort, the Tucson can still tow up to 1650 pounds, or up to 2,000 pounds when equipped with trailer brakes.

Style and Technology

Inside the cabin of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson PHEV is the same sensible style and quality fit and finish that has turned the Tucson into one of the leading compact SUVs on the market today. Seating for five includes 39.5 inches of rear leg room and 53.9 inches of rear hip room. These are the roomiest rear seats in the compact class, plenty of space for even above-average adults. It doesn't come at the cost of cargo space either, as the 31.9 cubic feet of cargo behind the second row and up to 66.3 cubic feet of cargo with the second row down is pretty much the largest cargo hold in the class.

All of this is done in a smart style, with attractive design and top-notch materials, everything that has made the Tucson a class leader. It's modern, with standard heated front seats, an 8-way adjustable power driver seat, and remote release folding rear seats that make it easy to open up that 66.3 cubic feet of cargo space. Front and rear seats get dual USB outlets for data and charging. Dual-zone automatic climate control makes it easy for everyone to get the temperature that makes them comfortable. Wireless device charging is offered.

For infotainment needs, the standard 8-inch touch screen infotainment system features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and can be upgraded to a 10.25-inch screen. Safety

Just how many safety features can you squeeze into a compact SUV? We're not entirely sure, but the 2022 Hyundai Tucson is sure trying to test it. Nearly all of Hyundai's industry-leading safety systems are standard at the base level. This includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian, cyclist, and junction turning detection; stop-and-go adaptive cruise control; lane tracing assist, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, rear parking sensors, a rear seat reminder, driver attention monitoring, and a rearview camera with parking guidance. The innovative Safe Exit Assist is a feature that is ahead of its time, and standard on all Santa Fe PHEVs. Rear Occupant Alert is standard on the base Tucson, while the next-gen Ultrasonic Rear Occupant Alert is available. Optional advanced safety features include the Blind-Spot View Monitor, Surround View Monitor, Highway Driving Assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and navigation-based Smart Cruise Control with curve control.

Trim Levels

There are only two trim levels to choose from on the 2022 Hyundai Tucson PHEV, but you can't go wrong with either of them! The base SEL is very well stocked, while the Limited takes it to a whole other level.

At the base SEL convenience trim, you get stain-resistant cloth seating, power amenities, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Front seats are heated with three step levels, and the driver seat has 8-way power adjustability. Heated side mirrors are standard to take care of winter icing, while proximity key entry with push button start makes it a breeze to get in and get warm in the chilly weather.

On the Limited trim, you get pretty much everything but the kitchen sink thrown in. Leather-trimmed seats include ventilated front seats, as well as an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat. Rear seats get high/low heating, as does the leather-wrapped steering wheel. A larger 10.25 touch screen with navigation replaces the 8-inch unit and includes Dynamic Voice Recognition as well as an upgraded Bose Premium Audio System. Safety is improved as well by adding in the Blind-Spot View Monitor, Surround View Monitor, Highway Driving Assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and navigation-based Smart Cruise Control with curve control. Ambient 64-color LED interior lighting, including upper and lower center console and door pocket lighting, offers personality and luxury feel. This is topped off by unique premium front and rear fascias, a dark chrome accent grille, and gloss black pillars.
