Midsize SUVs are everywhere! They’re one of the most popular vehicle segments around, with a flexible combination of cargo and passenger space in a smaller, driveway- and garage-friendly package.

Few midsize SUVs put all of this together quite as well as the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe does. A recognizable name, the Santa Fe has been around for over two decades already. However, it has undergone an incredible evolution in that time, and the latest edition offers bang for the buck that has made it a favorite of families and commuters!

Performance Features
Two different powertrains are available under the hood of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine offers 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, adequate and reliable for most drivers’ needs. Properly equipped, it can tow up to 2000 pounds as well. This engine can be combined with front- or all-wheel drive – the former gets 25 MPG city and 28 MPG highway, while the latter gets 22 MPG city and 25 MPG highway.

Drivers looking for a quicker, more potent engine with pick-up will want to opt for the higher trim levels with the turbocharged 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. Churning out 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, this engine is much better suited for long highway drives, or toting around an entire family plus cargo. There’s little difference in fuel economy from the less-powerful engine either, as the turbo gets 22 MPG city and 28 MPG highway as front-wheel drive, or 21 MPG city and 28 MPG highway as all-wheel drive. The turbo also allows for greater towing capacity, up to 3500 pounds!

Style and Technology
From the outside, the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe offers a clean, pleasing, modern look. Skinny, slanting headlights and a unique front end where the grille blends into the lights themselves, offering a unique appearance. Wheels range from 18 to 20 inches.

Ranging from simple and durable to luxurious, the interior of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe is roomy, thanks to opting for two rows instead of three. This allows the second-row passengers to have the most leg room in the class, at 41.7 inches – on par with front-row leg space in many midsize SUVs! Behind the second row of seats is 36.4 cubic feet of cargo space, plenty for road trip needs, and when the second row is stowed the cabin opens up to 72.1 cubic feet total, great for errands or moving into dorms.

The base model features the 8-inch infotainment screen still, but all other models feature the big, bright 10.25-inch touchscreen. Regardless of size, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration is standard on every Santa Fe model. HD Radio is standard across the line-up, with SiriusXM standard on all but the SE model. A Harman Kardon premium audio system with 12 speakers and QuantumLogic Surround is available.

Safety
Hyundai’s SmartSense suite features an amazing number of advanced driver assistance features, even from the base level of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe. All models include a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe-exit assist, rear-seat alert, and driver drowsiness monitoring. Higher trim levels add features including Highway Driving Assist with adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot camera, a surround-view parking camera, parking sensors, and even Remote Smart Parking Assist, a system that lets you move the SUV in or out of a parking spot while outside of the vehicle with only the key fob!

Trim Levels
The new 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe offers five trim levels with recognizable naming conventions. Some features have been shuffled from previous years though, and the SEL Convenience trim has been removed.

Featuring all of the standard features mentioned above, the SE trim is an excellent choice for many shoppers. Four USB ports are scattered throughout the cabin for charging and media connection, and Bluetooth hands-free is standard. Cloth upholstery surrounds the cabin, with 6-way adjustable seats for the driver and front passenger.

Moving up to the SEL trim brings a bevy of comforts and conveniences. Stain-resistant cloth upholstery is standard, although H-Tex trim is available with the premium package. An 8-way power-adjustable driver seat and heated front seats are standard – an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat is available with the premium package. The SEL models and above get the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, with SiriusXM and navigation included – upgrade to the Harman Kardon premium audio system in the optional package. Dual automatic temperature control keeps everyone comfortable, while wireless device charging helps to limit the wires strewn throughout the cabin. A panoramic sunroof is offered as part of the premium package. One of the best conveniences added is the hands-free smart liftgate with auto open and adjustable height setting that makes it a breeze to load and unload if you’ve got your hands full!

If you’re looking for offroad styling, the XRT trim dresses up the basic SEL trim. Heated side mirrors feature black covers. Unique black lower front and rear fascia trim, dark silver skid plates, and XRT-exclusive side moldings clearly set the trim apart from others. Side steps make it easier to climb in and out of the Santa Fe, or knock dirt and mud off your shoes before you climb in!

Featuring the turbocharged engine, the Limited trim is more powerful and also offers plenty of comforts. Outside, LED taillights and projector-type LED headlights are added, and power-folding side mirrors get body-color trim. Leather-trimmed seats and LED interior lighting offer a touch of luxury, and the driver’s seat gets four-way power lumbar adjustability along with a leg cushion extension. Heated rear seats are added to give passengers some warmth in the cold months, while the front seats receive ventilation. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is heated as well. Finally, the panoramic sunroof that is optional on the SEL trim is standard. Possibly the most important additions are the additional safety features including Surround-View Monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.

The Calligraphy trim tops off the model line-up and is loaded with luxury. Quilted premium Nappa leather seats are complemented by the eco-suede microfiber headliner. Interior accent lighting is expanded for a more upscale feeling. Information for the driver is displayed on the windshield-type Heads-Up Display, keeping their eyes on the road ahead.
